They just built so many cool cars. I want to own all of them. I still own the 59 but it still does not run!

Kinja'd!!!

Some people on the Lincoln forum I was on said it was a $400 dollar parts car. I hope they are wrong!

They're crazy. It should be worth more than that even just to you to keep. Perhaps cost is dictated by "what can I sell it for", which leaves you with something that should be worth a lot but that very few people want in current state. Even if you were to part it out, though, you could easily make $400 on bumpers and lights alone.
Mostly, though, I'm still in the mothballing it and fixing it as you go club, and that's only intensified by the sense that it's hard to turn into quick money. High potential value, but very little of it is liquid - and if it's "not worth anything" there's no pressure for you to fix it "right" - you can make mistakes.

That car is probably worth more than that just in scrap metal. They are nuts. The 59 is a lot more desirable than my 79 and I wouldn't sell my 79 for a cent under 2 grand. Mine is running and driving but it is in rough shape it needs a complete suspension overhaul, every bushing in the car is like a dried up marshmallow.

Ramblin I must say now that it has not been easy to sell I am starting to feel that way. I just mothball and keep it. The only problem is I am not sure were to store it.

It is super rusted out on the floor boards plus there is rust right below the doors and on a unibody car from what I understand that is bad news.

By the way I haven't seen a post on the 79 in a while how is it coming?

It is surprisingly hard to sell a rusted non running car on craigslist! It is making me have second thoughts

It's been sitting on jack stands for 2 months I haven't done anything to it in quite a while.

Last time I went close to it I broke every bolt I touched.

I'm gonna replace the gas tank(which I have a new one in the garage) and patch up a few rust holes then I'm gonna sell it I think.

It *is* bad news to have sill rust. However, with those who have access to 16GA or 14GA metal, a brake, and sufficient bravery with a welder, it's not a death sentence. Heck, if I had a good list of what you needed I could get it done. Some months from now, I'm planning on driving Maine-ward to hang out with 505, and I don't think ultimately that Columbus area is that far out of the way - I could look at it if you like.

Really? Just not what you were wanting or not enough time?

Life is getting in the way. I'm at the point where the money would be more useful than the car.

I will eventually get a project again but it would have to be rust free. Rust is one of those things I don't have much patience for. I can do mechanical work all day but bodywork is not for me.

Where would you be coming from? I don't want you to come out of your way. Also I am still not totally sure I can save it yet or store it somewhere. There are a lot of if's still in play here and if I get a good enough offer I will probably take it.

Yeah I am in a similar boat with my Lincoln. Money would be more helpful than a project but dam if it isn't hard to sell.

I'd be coming from western NC, so traversing the worst of VA and the Capitol area diagonally vs. heading north and then traversing east are not all that different. If for nothing else, it'd not be bad to just leer over it for shits and giggles and spend an hour or two opponetworking. Plus which, you've got the USAF museum right there, man.

By "right there" You mean about two hours west and south of me. But yes it would be a fun time. Actually it might not be a bad Oppo meet up in all honesty. Everyone go to the awesome USAF museum. I think at this point the engine in the car would have to be pulled if I kept it. Which would mean I would engine an engine hoist.

Sunbelt rents them, and there's probably one pretty close.

I never thought about renting one. There is a local rental power tool place by me. That is a great idea actually.

I worked in a tool/equipment rental place summers while I was in college. That's why I know these things. U Haul actually used to be in the business of more tool rentals and such, but dropped out over time.

Really? I guess that makes some sense because Uhaul does rent quite a bit of stuff. I was actually looking at them when I was trying to get the Lincoln pulled out of its forest grave

One of the tricks you do face with that car is that the "easy" way to get sandblasting/some other things done is on a rotisserie, but I can't see most rotisseries being strong enough. You need one for like... a tank or something. Granted, a good car lift will make a lot possible, or even stands, it just means more rust, gunge, and good ol' flaming metal down the collar...

Kinja'd!!! JR1 > RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I definitely do not have access to a stand or a rotisserie looks like if I want to get any work done it will be from a foot above me while I am on my back. I would have to first get the brakes freed up and that is probably a minor nightmare.

All nightmares become lucid dreaming when you have a torch.
